This is the latest update on lateral partner and counsel moves in Texas. Included are all moves at AmLaw 200 firms; data in these reports is primarily derived from Firm Prospects LLC. For more details and analysis, including a list of laterals for the month, please click here.

TMG’s monthly study of lateral moves in Texas revealed 31 partner and counsel moves in January 2024, up from 17 in December. Twenty of those moves occurred in Houston, 6 in Dallas, 4 in Austin and 1 in San Antonio. Three movers came from in-house positions, three from government and the rest came from private practice.

Four separate firms reported multiple moves during the month and one of those was a Litigation group in Houston which joined Baker McKenzie from Eversheds Sutherland. Another was an Insurance and Litigation group which joined Norton Rose Fulbright from Chasnoff Mungia Pepping & Stribling. Also reporting multiple moves in January were Kirkland & Ellis and Willkie Farr.

Eleven of the 31 lawyers (35.4%) were women, with six entering as partners. That compared to 14 of the 20 men who joined their new firms as partners.

Litigation was the leading practice area represented, with 10 practitioners. Other practice areas included:
