This is the latest update on lateral partner and counsel moves in Texas. Included are all moves at AmLaw 200 firms; data in these reports is primarily derived from Firm Prospects LLC. For more details and analysis, including a list of laterals for the month, please click here.

TMG’s monthly study of lateral moves in Texas revealed 29 partner and counsel moves in March 2023. Sixteen of those moves occurred in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with 8 in Houston, four in Austin, one in San Antonio. All 29 of the movers came from private practice.

Seven separate firms reported multiple moves during the month. Five group moves were reported—a Corporate/Tax group in Dallas that joined Alston & Bird from Dentons; an Energy/Data Privacy in Houston that joined Bradley Arant from Dentons; a Technology group in Dallas that joined K&L Gates from Winston & Strawn; a Real Estate group in Dallas that joined Sheppard Mullin from Jones Day; and a Banking group in Dallas that joined Winston & Strawn from Cadwalader. Other firms reporting at least two lateral hires included:

  • Greenberg Traurig (Austin, Dallas, Houston)
  • Michael Best (Austin)

Ten of the 29 lawyers (34.5%) were women, with five entering as partners. That compared to 11 of the 19 men who joined their new firms as partners.

Real Estate was the leading practice area represented, with 8 practitioners. Other active practice areas included:
