This is the latest update on lateral partner and counsel moves in the Washington, D.C. area. The data included in these reports is primarily derived from Firm Prospects LLC. For more details and analysis, including a list of laterals for the month, please contact Steve Nelson.
While 58 partner and counsel moves were reported in March, the same as in February, the total was significantly lower than in March 2025. As a result, the number of lateral moves so far in 2026 trails the number for the first three months of 2025.
There were two group moves in March. One was a three-partner Class Action Defense group that moved from Mayer Brown to Skadden Arps. The other was a two-partner State Attorneys General group that moved from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft to Greenberg Traurig.
Other firms reporting multiple lateral moves included:
- Akin Gump
- Boies, Schiller & Flexner
- Dechert
- Eversheds Sutherland
- Kirkland & Ellis
- Mintz, Levin
- Morgan, Lewis & Bockius
- Nelson Mullins
- Spencer Fane
- WilmerHale
Eleven attorneys were hired from government positions, while four attorneys moved from in-house roles.
Sixteen of the movers (27.6 percent) women. Of those, nine (56.3 percent) joined their new firms as partners. That compared to 33 of the 42 men (78.6 percent) who were selected partners at their new firms.
Litigation once again was the most active practice area represented, with 12 moves. Other active practice areas included:
- Intellectual Property (9)
- White Collar/Investigations (6)
- Antitrust (4)
- International Trade/National Security (4)
- Corporate (4)
