TMG’s monthly study of lateral moves in Texas revealed 18 partner and counsel moves in September 2023. Eleven of those moves occurred in the Houston, with 4 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and three in Austin. All 18 of the movers came from private practice.

Four separate firms reported multiple moves during the month and these moves were each group moves—a Real Estate Group in Austin/Houston/Dallas which joined Foley & Lardner from Husch Blackwell; a Corporate Group in Houston which joined Holland & Knight from Winston & Strawn; a Litigation Group in Houston which joined Jackson Walker from Winston & Strawn; and an Intellectual Property Group in Houston which joined Spencer Fane from Fish & Richardson.

Seven of the 18 lawyers (38.8.%) were women, with five entering as partners. That compared to 10 of the 11 men who joined their new firms as partners.

Corporation was the leading practice area represented, with 5 practitioners. Other active practice areas included:
