Stephen Nelson is Managing Principal for the Law and Government Affairs practice area of The McCormick Group and also chairs the company’s Law Firm Services Group. He came to The McCormick Group after 17 years in legal journalism and publishing. For nine years, he served as Executive Editor of Prentice Hall Law & Business, where he was responsible for the legal publisher's Washington, D.C. operations. Before that, he held a variety of positions at the D.C.-based Legal Times, including News Editor and Managing Editor.

Steve, a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., is a graduate of George Washington University and the University of Toledo Law School. After graduating from law school, he practiced antitrust and trade regulation law at a large Washington, D.C. law firm.

In addition to managing the Law and Government Affairs practice area and conducting searches in a variety of legal subspecialties, Steve also handles a number of consulting assignments, including law firm merger planning, practice area expansion, and the interplay between marketing, public relations and recruiting. Steve has recently devoted much of his efforts in the sales and marketing and professional development area, and is an active member of the Legal Sales and Service Organization He has written a number of articles on various topics of interest relating to the legal profession.

In his spare time, Steve is a jazz and blues enthusiast and can often be seen attempting to predict the outcome of thoroughbred horse races. He also has appeared as a stand-up comedian at several venues in the Washington, D.C., area.
